TRANSFER GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

BIG CHANGES COMING IN FALL 2025!

Effective Fall 2025, Assembly Bill 928 (AB 928) requires that California Community Colleges (CCC) implement a singular lower-division general education (GE) pattern called the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). Cal-GETC will satisfy the lower-division GE requirements necessary for transfer and admission to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.

Students who begin at GCC prior to Fall 2025 can follow the CSU GE Breadth or IGETC requirements, so long as they maintain continuous enrollment (have catalog rights). Read more about Cal-GETC.

Meet with a counselor to complete your Student Education Plan (SEP) and to make sure that the courses you're taking fulfill the GE and major requirements at the school you plan on attending.

Students who have catalog rights prior to Fall 2025 may elect to complete the Cal-GETC requirements but it is not required.

What is Cal-GETC?

Completion of Cal-GETC will permit a student to transfer from a California Community College (CCC) to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus or program without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division, general education courses to satisfy campus general education requirements.

Although it is strongly recommended that students complete Cal-GETC prior to transfer, completion of Cal-GETC may not be appropriate for some engineering, math, science, or other high unit majors. Some individual colleges or majors within a UC campus may not accept or recommend Cal-GETC to fulfill all of their general education requirements. See a counselor to discuss the best path for you.
